Saint-Hyacinthe, October 29, 2024 – The Café-CRIPA of the Swine and Poultry Infectious Diseases Research Center (CRIPA) was a great success during its edition on October 4 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Montreal. This event brought together more than 80 participants from the veterinary, industrial, academic and laboratory sectors, offering a unique opportunity to discuss crucial topics such as African swine fever, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, regional and international biosecurity, as well as avian influenza and avian metapneumovirus.
Organized and hosted by Drs. Jean-Pierre Vaillancourt and Mariela Segura, both professors at the University of Montreal, 7 renowned speakers shared the latest advances in the field of biosecurity. The discussions helped strengthen knowledge and pave the way for fruitful collaborations.

An event under the banner of innovation and collaboration
Mariela Segura, director of CRIPA and professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Montreal, highlighted the importance of this event for the future of biosecurity research:
« Café-CRIPA allows experts, veterinarians and researchers to discuss current challenges and innovative solutions for the swine and poultry industry. Interdisciplinary collaboration is essential to advance research and strengthen farm safety. »
Jean-Pierre Vaillancourt, biosecurity expert at CRIPA and professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Montreal, added:
« The idea of CRIPA is to bring together experts from various backgrounds in order to ask the right questions, because often, these are the questions that lead to the best solutions. »
